Corn Maze 2011

A couple of weeks ago, Travis and I were driving back home from a trip to Sacramento.  Along the highway, I saw a sign for "the world's largest corn maze."  Travis and I started talking about corn mazes, and I was surprised to learn that he had never been to one!  (I went to a corn maze during my time at Tech.)  So I made a mental note to check out this corn maze online and see what I could find.  As it turns out, it really is the world's largest corn maze!!  It's in the Guinness Book of World Records and everything.  Needless to say, we had to go.

Travis decided that we should go at night and tackle the maze in the dark.  This thing is 45 acres huge.  It was awesome!

{Before we entered the maze.}
{The map}
Thank goodness they gave us a map!  We never would have made it out without one.  As it is, it took us over 2 hours to navigate our way from the entrance to the exit.  We got turned around a couple of times, but for the most part we were pretty awesome.  ;)  We learned early on not to listen to other people, as they aren't always as smart as you.  haha!  We were headed the right way (towards the beginning of the maze), and some people started walking the opposite direction, saying, "It's a dead end."  So we turned around and ended up getting lost.  ha!

At some point in the middle of the maze we (I) decided that we needed to get a picture of us inside the maze.  So I pulled out the camera and we started attempting to take a good picture.  Unfortunately, the flash was really bright, and we could not get our eyes to cooperate!!

{Please note that I have crazy wide eyes and Travis practically closes his every. single. time.}
Since the camera was already out, Travis got the photography itch and started taking pictures of the corn stalks and the moon.  So to end this blog post, here are 2 of the fantastic pictures he took.  :)

SF with Trey

Trey was in town for an interview the past few days, so Travis and I drove out to San Francisco to hang out with him!  Trey's free day lined up perfectly with Travis' day off.  The only downer was that it was kinda rainy all day long.  It never started pouring rain, but it came down pretty decently a few times!

We started off by walking around Pier 39 and eating lunch.  Seeing as we've been to SF so many times now, and it was raining, I didn't take many pictures.  The guys did want their pictures taken by Zoltar, though.  Who wouldn't?  :)

By the way, I just realized that they dressed alike!  hahaha  How cute!  ;)

After lunch, we walked down to Pier 33, got our Alcatraz tickets, and boarded the boat!  I did forget to take Dramamine that morning, but the boat was pretty big and it was a fairly calm ride (both out there and back), so it worked out alright.  ;)  Like I said before, I would have taken more pictures, but it was raining.  When we were inside the cell house, I was paying more attention to the audio tour than to potential photos, but I did get a few.

The first thing you see when you walk into the cell house is where the inmates had to shower (twice a week).
On the left is a furnished cell.  On the right, Travis is walking out of one of the isolated cells, where the prisoners were kept in total darkness.

The sign on the island.
After Alcatraz, we walked through Fisherman's Wharf to Ghirardelli Square.  Travis ordered a pumpkin spice caramel hot cocoa, I had an old fashioned strawberry soda, and Trey got 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge.  (It was all delicious.)  We then hiked up the steep hill to the top of Lombard Street, so that Trey could experience not only the "crookedest street," but also the hills in San Francisco.  It was all the more difficult due to the fact that it was still raining and the sidewalks were soaking wet.  (None of us slipped, though.  We're all pretty awesome.)

We then walked back to the car and headed home.  We timed everything pretty perfectly!  The sun started to set as we left San Francisco.  I will leave you with this one last photograph - the San Francisco skyline as seen from Alcatraz.
