Updating the Dining Room

The following picture is of the strange space in our dining room...

When we first saw this house, I asked the realtor what that was for.  She said, "I don't know, a T.V.?"  .....  Ok, we don't have a T.V. that would fit in there, and why would we want one in the dining room, anyway??  So for months and months, our dining room has been the home of boxes and we haven't done anything with the strange shelving unit.  I called our landlord right after we moved in to ask permission to redo it.  He seemed kinda skeptical, but said that he would trust me to make it look better.  To be honest, I'm not sure I could make it look worse!  haha  So when my parents came to visit us, I took advantage of my dad's skills and had him help me finally turn this thing into something I can use.  Drum roll, please.........

Ta-da!  My dad tore out the old shelves and measured the space to see what we were dealing with.  We painted the inside walls and the edging so that it would look clean and match the white trim around the floor.  We purchased new shelves and installed them.  Hopefully to my landlord's liking, we installed them so that they can be moved around (just in case someone in the future does want to use it for a T.V.).  And finally, here is another picture with stuff in it's place.

I'm already in love with it.  :)  Now we just need to put up the rest of the things piled in the dining room so that we can put up our table.....

Santa Margarita Lake

For our vacation this summer, Travis and I decided to go camping.  Apparently, though, you have to plan almost a year in advance to camp in Yosemite, so we went somewhere else!  We went to Santa Margarita Lake, which is in central California.  We were able to stay for 5 nights (4 full days).  :)  We took lots of pictures on our trip, and here are my favorites!

Our Cabin
We spent the first day mostly hanging around the campground.

The Jumping Pillow

My fellow campers!!

The second day we drove to see Hearst Castle.  If you don't know about it already, you can get information on the castle here.

Inside the castle's "Grand Rooms"
Travis took this picture.  Isn't it good??
One of the many sculptures on the grounds.
The outdoor pool.  Beautiful!  We wanted to swim in it so badly!
Apparently you would be fined $750 for getting into the pool.  Even if you accidentally fell in...
The indoor pool.
22 karat gold is in every single one of those tiles.  All along the bottom of the pool, as well as around it.
Inside the theatre.  These were all along the walls.
The castle had a great view of the Pacific Ocean.
Day 3 was spent closer to the campground.  We went fishing and swimming at the lake!

The Santa Margarita Lake was beautiful!!!

This was our fishing spot.  Unfortunately, we didn't catch anything.

One of our nightly campfires.  :)
On our last day, we drove to Morro Bay to see the Morro Rock, which is a volcanic plug.  Don't know what a volcanic plug is?  Click here.

These pictures were taken on different sides of the rock.  To get the first one, we (probably illegally) climbed up some rocks to see that awesome view!  Yes, we were splashed by a gigantic wave right before we climbed back down.

After the rock, we stopped off at a winery in Santa Margarita to taste some wine.  Both of the bottles we purchased were made from grapes grown in Santa Margarita.

This was taken on our last night while we were walking around the campground.  Yes, that tiny white dot is the moon.  :)
I took sunset pictures almost every night we were there, but this one is by far my favorite!

4th of July in Sacramento

Travis had to perform on the 4th of July, so I drove up to Sacramento to see him play and watch the fireworks up there.  I rode up there with another band wife, and after we ate dinner with our guys, we went to get snow cones and sit down for the concert.

Travis sounded great!  He had several solos, and I was very proud.  :)
After the concert, the fireworks started!  Here are some of the best shots I got of them:

It was a good Fourth of July!
